Karyl Shields is a professional designer and artist who has been pursuing the idea of art for the past 45 years.

"It never seems to rest - the older I get the more art consumes me. I'm constantly looking for just the right medium to create a new texture, thinking about what color to mix to capture just the right mood or how to
design the piece so the viewer will relate to the art. It's a never ending quest, one that makes experimental art so enjoying."

Karyl is interested in any medium that captures the essence of the subject she is painting. Some of her pieces have been extended into the frame to continue the effect.

	"I want the viewer to see something new each time they look at a piece. I feel I can succeed by using a variety of surface texture and functional design to direct eye movement. Part of this interaction is created by making pieces that encourage the viewer to touch them - feeling the dimension of the surface material."
	Karyl Shields pursues advancement through national juried competitions and by exhibiting in local galleries.
